West Indies and India started their month-long duel in scrappy fashion as the latter registered a four-wicket win in the first T20I.
Having won the toss India opted to bowl first and the decision paid off immediately as the Windies were reduced to 33-5 in six overs.
India’s debutant Navdeep Saini was impressive taking three wickets. Kieron Pollard’s 49-runs knock and some resistance from Nicholas Pooran helped West Indies post a miserly target of 96. Bhuvneshwar Kumar took two wickets while Washington Sundar, Khaleel Ahmed, Krunal Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja finished with one apiece.
India lost opener Shikhar Dhawan in the second over and apart from Rohit Sharma’s 24 no batsmen was able to cross 20. However, despite losing wickets regularly the target of 96 always seemed within reach. India reached the target with 4 wickets and 16 balls to spare.
Sheldon Cottrell, Sunil Narine and Keemo Paul all took two wickers. Debutant Navdeep Saini was declared man of the match for his 3-wickets.
